Monthly Goal Check-In #1

I thought it would be a good idea to take stock of where I’m at with the goals at the start of every month.

As long as the 1st doesn’t fall on a Sunday - that’s To-Do List Day - I’ll do it on the first, otherwise I’ll do it on the last day of the previous month or the 2nd.

Fun fact, now that I’ve taken the time to look it up - June is the only month we’ll have to worry about the first falling on a Sunday, believe it or not. (I wonder how often within a calendar year a monthly date only falls on a particular day of the week once. Is this a rare thing? Is it often? I’ve never thought about it before.)

Anyway, this will help with accountability since I can’t ignore the progress (or lack thereof) and we have to face them each month.

No need to link back to all of these - you know where to find my writing about them in more detail - these were all covered in the first couple few weeks of January:

Running/Exercise Goals

  1. Take a Peloton Class in Studio: As I mentioned, my first attempt will be to try to get this to land on my birthday, so this is a second half of the year goal. Hopefully it happens at some point over the summer.

  2. 100 Day Streak Challenge: As you read this I’ve managed to take at least one Peloton class for 32 days in a row. 68 to go. (The picture above was taken yesterday but by now I’m sure I’ve continued my streak. I like to exercise first thing in the morning.)

  3. Complete at least 1 Marathon and 1 Half Marathon: I have registered for at least one of each, so we’re progressing.

  4. Complete the B.A.A. Distance Medley: Big success last week with this one (or at least part one of this one) when I was one of the 3,000 to register for the medley.

  5. Run a sub-5 hour Marathon: We won’t know until October. No progress at all yet - training isn’t even underway.

  6. 2026 Boston Marathon: Haven’t done much towards this yet either, but there are a couple of events on the docket.

Writing

  1. Finish Book Draft: I don’t have an end goal in mind as far as word count - I’m just going to tell the story I want to tell and add more or subtract from it once we get to the end. But I guess word count is as good a metric as any to keep track of my progress. I had a little flurry of writing this week to put me past 10,000 words. Not bad considering it’s not like I worked on it every day for 31 days.

  2. Document 2025 on this blog every day: I think we’re doing OK so far. How about you? (Also, it’s nice that the Peloton streak doubles as a tracker for the first 100 days of this project.)

  3. Publish a Written Piece: Not going to lie, I kind of forgot about this one. But this is why we’re doing this, right? See, it helps. I do have one thing I should try submitting soon.

Other

  1. Read More: A couple of books in the first month. And I’ve already started my third. Not bad.

  2. Learn New Things: I’m doing my best. Still a lot of year to go.

  3. Experience New Things: I haven’t come across a ton yet to experience that’s new, but I won’t pass up the opportunities when they come along.
