2025 Week 8 To-Do

I like to watch the snow melt.

That sounds like a boring statement, but I promise it’s more exciting than, say, watching the paint dry.

In the winter there is usually a big snowstorm or two sometime in January and I make a bet to myself whether there will be some sort of snow coverage on the ground until April or May.

Sometimes I’m confident about it, sometimes I’m not.

The past couple of years there hasn’t been enough snow at all to play this game.

But this year, after the past couple of weeks, I felt pretty sure we’d make it to about April with some kind of snow on the ground.

Unfortunately, this means I’m dealing with too much snow - it affects where I can run, it affects ice in the driveway, the roof, like I talked about last week…but it’s nowhere near as bad as that winter of 2015 when the ice banks were so high every corner was like peeking around a mountain for other cars.

But I like following the patterns of the sun and seeing where melting happens most and where it doesn’t. The front of the house gets intense sun the first part of the day. The backyard doesn’t get a whole lot of sun in the wintertime.

That picture above is where our lawn meets the driveway and where I dump most of the snow I shovel. Over the next few weeks that pile will slowly decrease in size.

I love watching it happen. As it gets smaller and smaller, the closer we get to spring.

Here’s what’s going on this week while I’m not watching snow melt:

This Week’s To-Do List

  • I have an Eye Doctor Appointment on Monday morning. The eye doctor happens to be in the same neighborhood as some of the setting of the book I am working on so I might Scout Out The Area while I’m there too, if I have time. A reminder that the update on the monthly goals - including said book - comes Saturday, which is March 1st.

  • I might not have time to do that scouting, though, because I have an In-Person Meeting on Monday afternoon that I’ll likely be telling you more about. Stay tuned.

  • I have continued the monthly menu idea into March - this week I need to Put The Finishing Touches on the March Menu.

This Week’s May-Do List

  • I actually have to Order MLB.TV - usually I auto-renew it from year to year but last year it came with my season tickets so I turned off auto-renew. Whether I have it or not I should be able to Watch Some Mets Spring Training Games before I get bored of the games and ready for the regular season. (I somehow had access to Saturday’s game so I was able to watch a couple of innings of the Mets’ first spring training game.)

You can click here for more details on last week’s To-Do list, but here’s the summary:

Last Week’s To Do

  • Two of my daughters and I took a trip to New York Thursday morning through Friday evening - it was a nice visit other than the hour that I thought I lost my credit card. I did not.

  • Believe it or not I almost forgot to enter the NYC Marathon lottery. But I finally did it a few days before the deadline.

  • Told you about Captain America this week.

Last Week’s May-Do

  • I did write about jury duty, but Tuesday featured another major event that I’ll be telling you about tomorrow. Sometimes when something like that happens it might end up throwing off work for the week. It, in fact, did.

  • I already told you about the SNL special this week. I enjoyed it.

  • Ooh, I forgot about rearranging the gym stuff. You’ll hear about it when I do.

  • Kathy and I did some pricing and looking and I would say we are close to a recliner purchase. I would like to have it in place for baseball season.
