I Am Officially 6'1''...And Other Takeaways From My Doctor's Appointment

(Sunday Paper, Volume III, Issue 14)

On Tuesday I had my annual doctor's appointment.

I told you last year this was going to become an annual thing.

So far, so good.

The new development this year is that...nothing is new.

I saw the same doctor in the same office that I did a year ago.

And I'm pleased to tell you everything went very well.

I should start by stressing, I really lucked out with this doctor. Considering I just picked his name off a short list of possibilities at this particular place, turns out I got someone I really like.

Everything is fine physically - in the office everything checked out and I just received the results of my blood test and everything was in a normal range there too.

We had a good long chat about my diet - I'm not overweight or anything like that but I know I'm not eating as well as I should be and he gave me some great advice and helped spur some changes in my eating habits that I've been meaning to do for some time. (I'll write about that another time.)

Somehow I measured only 6 feet last year...but this year - as the above picture shows - I officially am 6 feet, 1 inch, which is a good height. (I am recalling that last year the nurse, when she took me into the exam room might have done a, "What are you, six feet?" type of thing instead of actually measuring me and this year I was measured, so I have an official height for the first time in, let's say, a decade. I like 6' 1''. Growing up I always wanted to be 6' 4''. But I'll take 6' 1''.)

The only mishap was when I robed (opposite of 'disrobed', I guess?) at the end of the appointment, walked out, said thanks to my doctor and then on the way to the checkout window I realized I hadn't zipped my fly.

Luckily it was a pretty modest unzipped fly and no one noticed in those thirty seconds or less.

Oh. I guess there was one other ominous note from the appointment.

As he left the exam room the doctor said, "Let's schedule another physical in a year. You'll be 40. So, be prepared, I'll be doing a [this part redacted for politeness' sake]."

Needless to say, April 8, 2019 will be a new experience for me.

Writing

*Busy week of work. Again, that's always a good thing, but Kathy was away for the end of the week and it was busy on top of busy. The highlight of my writing week: I wrote a really good pun that I won't bore you with out of context here but if you want to ask me about it the next time we see each other boy will I be excited to tell you about it.

Comedy

*Man, comedy has been HOT and April is just getting underway. Working on something that I think it's too early to talk about yet but I am excited about it and will let you know as soon as details are nailed down. I had a great time at The Winner's Circle Tuesday night (I've cracked the Top 100 list of appearances there, if you're ever in the upstairs area and want to look for my name on the list) and Sunday night at Improv Boston. Saturday night on Staten Island went as well as I could have hoped personally, and as a fundraiser I think it was equally successful. I hope so, anyway. I'll share the GoFundMe one more time and if you have it in your heart to give something, this is where to do it. Happy to talk more about the connection here if you're interested - feel free to reach out.

Also, got asked to host a show at the end of the month and found out I'll be doing another show in May - all great developments and I'll fill you in on those shows as they get closer.

What I've Been Enjoying

*If the weather ever turns warmer, boy do I have a summer place for you to check out if you're local. (Or if you're visiting me.) Murphy's Eats and Treats is a new spot in Ashland friends of ours opened recently and man is it good. You may or may not know I'm a huge fan of a good burger...and this place had good burgers. The fries and onion rings were good too. Eventually I think there will be mini golf....and you can top off the visit with ice cream. It's the perfect place for  the allegedly warm weather we'll eventually get.

Just don't tell my doctor about this...it's not exactly the type of food I'm supposed to be having.

Notes

*Holy heck are the Mets off to a great start and I am so excited about it and it is never a good thing for me to be this excited about the Mets this early in the season because it never turns out well for me but I sure do have a feeling that it's going to turn out differently this season. (For those not paying attention, they've won six of their first seven, including the first two of the first three-game series with division rival [and 2-time defending division champ] Washington. If you want to see what all the excitement is about, they're the nationally televised game tonight at 8pm.)

*Me and the girls are doing the Instagram Story thing after each game (and sometimes before and sometimes during each game) and it's been fun and they're not all great but there have been some gems. (Last Sunday's was a particular favorite of mine.) I'm @jsucich on Instagram.

*Oh, and while we're at it: Like the Facebook page! Follow @jsucich on Twitter! (Thanks so much!)

*Today would have been Gary Carter's 64th birthday. It is always a special day to me. It is also a special day to my friend Dave who some day will write a guest Sunday Paper but he has priorities in his life and my blog is not one of them. Which I respect entirely. But it is Dave's 40th birthday and I think he's great and if you see him today, first of all lucky you, but second of all, wish him a  Happy Birthday.
