Goal 8: 2026 Boston Marathon

This goal is a tricky one…but the good news is we’ll know if it is successful before the end of the year.

I also feel a little guilty about it because there are so many talented runners/people who love running out there who might never have a chance to run the Boston Marathon and because of where I live I can begin plotting for a possible third.

But nothing is guaranteed even for me, so maybe that levels the playing field a little bit.

And, oh man, the Boston Marathon was just such an amazing experience - both times - and I need to do it at least one more time.

So here’s the story: As many of you know, I ran as a member of Team Framingham. I was selected via a lottery and I had to raise money for a local charity and that guaranteed me a bib and I was lucky enough to be selected for that twice.

There’s another way I can get a bib, and unlike Team Framingham, which is an avenue available only to some of the people who live along the marathon route, it’s an option you’ll see open to many more people in Massachusetts: The BAA allots a certain number of bibs to running clubs that can then distribute them how they see fit.

My running club holds a lottery for people who meet certain criteria, so I’m working this year to meet those criteria so that I am eligible for the lottery at the end of this year.

Some of the activities will make appearances here throughout the year.

I mentioned last week that I had to take advantage of my lucky lottery selection into the Chicago Marathon because I just don’t know when I’ll get my next chance to run a major marathon.

Well, with any luck, next year at this time I’ll be training for it.
