I like to think I’m a good judge of people.

I think I was really good at it for a long time, then I got not-so-good at it and misread some people (I’ll generally assume the best in people unless they give me reason not to or unless I peg them as ill-intentioned…and I think over the decade I spent working at home I kind of got worse at reading people’s intentions), but I think I’m maybe re-gaining that skill? I guess time will tell.

(And, listen, none of this resulted in anything bad happening to me but I found out about people I thought were OK doing things that were not OK and it was disappointing.)

Anyway, I like to think I get a pretty good read on people.

All of this is to say I have read some articles about and listened to some interviews with Lucy Dacus and my impression of her is that she is a genuinely good person.

So I listened to a bunch of her music, including the newest album, which is what a lot of that press was centered around.

The music is good. I was going to compare her to other similar singers but I don’t know if that gives any of them short shrift…because I mean this as a compliment: I don’t really know what sets other people apart from Lucy Dacus to the point where they become superstars and she’s not the same kind of household name.

I guess if I knew stuff like that I’d be a music producer or someone who writes about music in a more informed way than “Yes, this music was very listenable.”

And maybe I’m just an old guy who’s out of the loop…but I am willing to guess that more people know Lucy Dacus as “one of the women in boygenius” than as a solo artist. These are my assumptions. I could be wrong.

Turns out, she’s performing Sunday and Monday nights in Boston. I guess that’s a good gauge of where my assumptions are at. If there are still tickets available, maybe I’m right. I’m not sure I could secure a ticket on such short notice…but I think I’d go to one of those shows. Here’s another assumption - should I even bother? I’m kind of not the target demo, I’m guessing.

Anyway, I think Lucy Dacus is very nice and good and will probably be listening to more of her music moving forward. Maybe even seeing her live.

And if there’s some kind of interview with her, written or on a screen or in audio format, I’ll be listening or watching or reading, and I recommend you also pay attention to what she has to say.
