Monthly Goal Check-In #3
Unfortunately, this will be the last month I can use the Peloton streak image you see at the left.
But that’s also fortunate, because as you’ll read below, I’m ready for a break from that streak.
Let’s check in on the goals I set at the beginning of the year:
Running/Exercise Goals
Take a Peloton Class in Studio: There’s some flexibility with my work that at some point I should be able to make this happen. It’s not on the immediate horizon, however.
100 Day Streak Challenge: I have to be honest. This week we passed the ‘two weeks left’ mark, and there have been some days I just did not feel like doing anything. So I guess it’s partly good that this is keeping me doing something when I don’t necessarily want to…but also, I’m looking forward to a couple of days when I won’t have to do anything soon. The 5K Program has helped a lot to give me some structure most days. Also, I had a little stomach thing yesterday…luckily it was not something that stuck with me all day - I think it was something I ate - and I was able to get a 10-minute leg workout in. But it made me realize one sickness this late in the game would really wipe out a lot of progress.
Complete at least 1 Marathon and 1 Half Marathon: No changes here yet. Still registered for the Chicago Marathon and the BAA Half Marathon.
Complete the B.A.A. Distance Medley: We will finally start making progress here this month - the 5K is in a couple of weeks!
Run a sub-5 hour Marathon: We still won’t know until October. No progress at all yet - training isn’t even underway.
2026 Boston Marathon: The 5K I ran last month was one small part of this puzzle.
Writing
Finish Book Draft: I think this is the most important goal for which these monthly updates are necessary. I hardly wrote anything this month. But I am not forgetting about it, which is important. Knowing I have to be accountable here should get me at least through a first draft…which to be honest I was hoping to have done by now. But better late than never. I’m thinking maybe I’ll do a post about this whole process soon.
Document 2025 on this blog every day: Things will get a little more exciting this month. I think getting through those first three months was important because July through October I’ll have marathon training and the marathon to write about every so often, and there is other stuff happening between now and then that will give us some fodder too. But those first three months were a little uneventful. And we’ve managed to get through them, so that’s a good sign. I’ve also been able to keep myself from having to scramble at the last minute by writing posts ahead of time, so the more I can keep that up, the longer this will last.
Publish a Written Piece: I still haven’t heard about the one piece I submitted. This goal is probably becoming a longer shot by the month.
Other
Read More: Catch-22 slowed me down, but at least I was reading. I should start another new book soon.
Learn New Things: I am learning every day at my job and keeping my eyes and ears open elsewhere…but nothing worth writing about, I guess. This is more of an intangible goal.
Experience New Things: I had a chance to go to the Boston Ballet recently and I didn’t. But I think there will be another opportunity and I will do that when I can because that’s what 2025 is all about.
