A Low Point
0-5 was pretty bad…
But at least that was against teams that were either playing well at the time (Tigers) or have sustained their great start (Brewers).
The Mets badly needed to take this weekend series with the Marlins, one of the worst teams in baseball.
Instead they looked just as bad.
I’m not going to waste too many words on this weekend.
I didn’t watch much of Saturday’s game thanks to a dance recital that I enjoyed far more…and the Knicks are in the midst of a big comeback and there are too many other good things going on to focus on the Mets’ recent play.
But it has not been good.
The ONLY benefit of the doubt I’ll allow is that apparently there’s a bug going around and everyone is in less than ideal health - but that doesn’t excuse how the Mets blew their Saturday lead. Maybe it excuses Friday’s lackluster effort.
I guess I’m getting a little generous in my older years. I’m not so much angry as I feel badly for a guy like Edwin Diaz, who is such a nice guy and is struggling out of his mind right now. And instead of getting angry at a guy like Jeff McNeil who has seemingly lost the ability to do what he used to do so well (Hit), I am just at a loss to figure out what has happened.
But I’m also a little upset about it all.
And I’ll continue to watch, and I think I’ll continue to write…and I’ll continue to make my trips to Citi Field. But for now I’ll let things fall where they may and focus on enjoying the Rangers in the Eastern Conference Finals and hopefully the Knicks as well into the month of June.
The Weekend in Miami: 1-2
Overall: 21-25
Standings: 3rd place in NL East, 12 games behind Philadelphia
Up Next: 3 games in Cleveland, including a matchup with Carlos Carrasco on Tuesday night. I couldn't escape Carrasco at Citi Field last year - I would not be surprised if he re-pays that by no-hitting the Mets this week.
Let’s Go Mets.
