Not Hot In Cleveland

You know the saying:

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

The Mets can drive you crazy for any number of reasons..

But I guess the biggest reason would be that the same thing keeps happening and nothing changes.

It doesn’t get better.

If anything, it just keeps getting worse.

I hate being negative. Here’s a tiny little insight into how my brain works:

Right now I’m inclined to think, “They can really turn things around with a 9-1 record on this upcoming homestand.”

But then I think, even if this team were by some miracle able to make the playoffs in a wild card spot, what could they even come close to accomplishing.

We’re in a time loop.

When they pitch well, they don’t support their pitchers with runs. When the bats are going, the pitchers give up more runs.

The Mets do enough to load the bases.

They get no one home.

We’re in a …… you get the idea.

It’s the same thing over and over again with this team.

So as optimistic as I’d like to be…well, it feels like the five months the Mets played great in 2022 were the aberration, while the 2020, 2021, 2023 seasons are the rule. There just hasn’t been a good offensive approach. It’s not fun to watch.

Even after the 3-0 lead on three solo home runs this afternoon it felt like the Mets were just biding their time until the Guardians came back. They did, and they completed the sweep. (Even after I watched the ninth inning thinking the whole time, this would be a great comeback win! Insane.)

I guess it’s not a matter of if this team gets torn apart but when.

And unless they start playing a better brand of baseball, there are very few of these guys I would miss when they’re gone.

The Series In Cleveland: 0-3

Overall Record: 21-28

Standings: 4th place, 14 games behind Philadelphia

Up Next: The Mets are home for 10 games, starting with three against the San Francisco Giants. The Giants have also had hard times since the two teams met in San Francisco…but they haven’t been worse than the Mets.

Let’s Go Mets. (But mostly for the next couple of weeks, Let’s Go Rangers.)
