Perhaps you’re super-perceptive and noticed that among the social media links at the bottom of my posts is a new little link.

That’s for Bluesky, the newish social media that is supposed to be like what Twitter was originally intended to be.

I had a two-fold plan for 2025 in this particular department - wean myself off of Twitter and start a Bluesky account.

So on January 1 I set up Bluesky, and I actually cold turkey cut myself off Twitter.

I’m very proud of myself for the Twitter part - I had become very reliant on it even as it dipped more and more into stuff I didn’t want to read.

Part of that was my own fault - I let my timeline get away from me connecting with lots of different people from lots of different worlds - writing, comedy, sports - and a lot of those people turned out to share a lot of information that I didn’t want on my timeline.

But partly this was also a result of the way the app was headed.

Still, it was a valuable resource for me in terms of sports news, news news, and connecting with some people I cared to connect with.

The nice thing about Bluesky right now is I can curate a new timeline that is a little more what I originally had on Twitter that made it great for me.

So hopefully those resources I relied on Twitter so much for will also make their way to Blue Sky as well.

I’ve started to find some of the people I had met through Twitter whose posts I really enjoy, so I’m building that part back. I’ll get a feel for the sports aspect once baseball season starts again - I always liked having a wide variety of fans on my timeline, get a sense of what’s happening around the league. But I don’t want to lose control of the timeline again so maybe I’ll explore other avenues for that piece.

I eventually might go back onto Twitter just to post a note there advertising my Bluesky presence (which will probably get swallowed up by the algorithm anyway, so I don’t know if that’s worth it).

But I’ve always appreciated that people I followed did that…I just don’t remember now that I’m ready to follow them which of the people on my timeline did that.

Bottom line - I have the four social media links below…really the two I’m using most right now are Instagram and Bluesky.
