A New Routine
I’m back to wearing work clothes most days now.
Very recently I was giving you a little peek into my day-to-day.
In between times when I would be sitting down to work, I would tackle some games.
By the time that post was published, things had changed pretty dramatically.
I have a completely new routine now that I can’t really even describe to you because I haven’t figured it out yet.
It took me a long time to figure out the routine and discipline of working at home.
For a while, I remember, I worked at the kitchen table, then I created the home office area, and I kind of split days between the two, depending on whether Kathy was working from home as well or not.
That’s still the case on Mondays, when I’ll be doing the bulk of my writing and college work.
But now Tuesdays through Fridays I am working a new part-time job where I am on-site.
(And in the summers it will be Monday through Friday.) (And maybe I’ll tell you more about this job on this blog, maybe you’ll just have to find out about it off-line. Not sure what I’ll be making very public.)
So things have changed significantly around here for me.
I am trying to keep the shell of the day the same - there are just changing details.
I used to wake up and prepare snacks and do a little work before everyone was up and moving around, then I’d shower when everyone was at school. (Usually after I worked out, whether that was a run or some kind of strength workout.)
Now I wake up and shower and then I do the snacks and then I feed myself.
The workout often has to wait until later in the day.
The afternoons kind of shake out the same as before, just now I’m exercising after I get back.
And don’t get me started on those New York Times games. Sometimes I do the crossword at breakfast…other days I’m scrambling to get it done before the end of the day.
In the summer, even though it’s five days that I’ll be out-of-home, I should be able to do the early morning summer runs that I love doing because I won’t have to worry about the girls heading off to school.
Unless they’re working, I should be able to run, shower, and get myself off to work before they’re up and about.
But, again, this is all developing.
I’m thinking of it right now in segments - first there is the end of this school year to figure out, then there’s the summer routine that I’ll get into for a couple of months, and then next year there’s an entirely different school morning routine because we’ll have no more middle school mixed in. (In theory this is good because the high school starts earlier.)
As it all unfolds I’ll take some time to tell you about it.
